Description
This course is designed to provide a comprehensive coverage of the field of Black psychology; to help students develop a strong intellectual orientation and practice of Black psychology; to help students understand the role Black psychologists have in addtessing systematic inequities in institutional systems within society. This course will encourage students to brak from the western way of thought that pervades modern psychology by providing a comprehensive overview of the social, cultural, behavioral, political, educational, and historical experiences associated with people of African ancestry. This course is also designed to examine the formation of Black identity within the contexts of culture, politics, and education and encourage students to explore new approaches to the practices that better serve those of African descent.
